KEYPOINT:

• From senior executive roles and a high salary to building her own business
• The MarCom Pro grew through sincerity and friendships rather than self-promotion
• Life philosophy: ambitious, fearless, and willing to take risks

In today’s fast-moving and highly competitive business landscape, sustaining success with grace for more than a decade as the owner of a marketing and communications agency is no easy feat. Behind the warm smile and seemingly endless energy of Piyahatai “Ann” Autchayawat, Managing Director of The MarCom Pro Co., Ltd., lies a story of courage, relentless hard work, and a life philosophy that has never surrendered to the idea of a comfort zone.

This is the story of a woman who willingly walked away from a prestigious title, a generous salary, and long-term security—choosing instead to leap into uncertainty for one simple yet deeply personal reason: the pursuit of freedom.

Before The MarCom Pro was founded on 4 August 2014, Ann had spent her entire career as an employee. She had risen to positions many would dream of. Yet behind the polished image was a reality defined by 12–14 working hours a day, sleeping less than six hours nightly, sustained over nearly three consecutive years.

Her physical health deteriorated. Emotionally, she felt drained. Looking in the mirror, she no longer recognised herself. For someone who thrives on structure and control, working in hotel operations—where unexpected issues arise constantly—left her feeling she had lost complete control over her own time and life.

The final wake-up call came from within her own family.

“The moment that really hit me,” Ann recalls, “was when my child started making plans with his father without including me—simply because he didn’t know whether I’d be available.”

That moment forced her to confront a difficult question: Is this really the life I want? The answer led to a decisive mindset: “It’s now or never.”

She made a promise to herself: “Give it one year. Start my own company. If it fails, I can always return to the hotel industry.”

Confident in her experience and reputation, Ann stepped out of her comfort zone and into the vast uncertainty of becoming her own boss.

The Foundation of Success: When Sincerity Becomes the Strategy

Following that bold leap, The MarCom Pro did not rise overnight. The reality was far more grounded. The first month passed without a single client, as systems were being set up. In the second month, however, opportunities began to emerge—small projects from friends in the hotel industry who had limited budgets but genuine trust.

Early assignments included copywriting projects worth only tens of thousands of baht—work Ann accepted simply because “at least I could hire one junior staff member.” She took on graphic design work to help cover team salaries. Step by step, the company grew—from small restaurant clients to major brands. Remarkably, The MarCom Pro has never marketed itself. Its growth has been driven entirely by word-of-mouth.

So what made Ann and The MarCom Pro so trusted?

The answer lies not in marketing textbooks, but in a simple yet powerful philosophy of human connection. “If you see each other as friends, the relationship naturally goes beyond just work.”

Ann believes in building relationships that extend beyond business transactions. She often helps friends negotiate hotel rates or make reservations—even when those hotels are not her clients. These gestures, made without expecting anything in return, build genuine trust. Her personal rule is clear: never be fake.

If she doesn’t naturally connect with someone, she doesn’t pretend. Instead, she takes time to understand what genuinely matters to them—family, pets, or personal interests—and builds conversation around real common ground.

“I would never say, ‘I love your articles,’ if I don’t actually feel that way.”

This unwavering sincerity has allowed her network to grow organically across industries. Her relationships with celebrities and influencers are not transactional—they are personal. They come because they want to meet her, to talk, to connect.

Ann is transparent with clients: she cannot guarantee which celebrities will attend an event, because these relationships are built on trust, not contracts. At the deepest level, her success is rooted in one crucial trait: secret keeper.

“In this line of work, you must be someone who can truly keep secrets,” she explains. “We arrange accommodation for celebrities and influencers. We know who they travel with. That information has never, ever leaked.”

Trust, once given, is something she protects with her life.

Leadership with Courage and Depth

While sincerity forms the foundation, building a respected agency in a demanding industry requires a distinct leadership philosophy. At The MarCom Pro, that philosophy can be summed up in two words: boldness and depth.

Ann’s boldness is evident in how she works with clients. When asked how many press releases are included in a six-month contract, her answer is simple: “Unlimited.” There is, however, one condition: “Only if there’s something worth communicating. If it can’t be sold, we won’t write it.”

This approach rejects rigid metrics and prioritises real value over volume. She is also always willing to go beyond the agreed scope if it benefits the client.

As a leader, her boldness also means being a calm anchor in moments of chaos. She often reassures her team: “If you look at me and I’m not panicking, you don’t need to worry.” When necessary, she is willing to absorb additional costs—without focusing on profit—to ensure quality delivery and timely results.

At the same time, Ann operates with remarkable depth. She is deeply involved in mentoring her team, often sharing highly specific insights. For example, she explains how to speak to journalists during meals: “If they’ve just taken a bite of food, that’s the moment to share your key message—because they have to listen while they’re chewing.”

Even personal presentation matters. She tells her team: “Don’t wear the camera around your neck. If you do, you’re instantly a photographer. Hold it in your hand—you’re a PR professional who can take photos.”

This level of detail defines the standards she sets. However, such high expectations come with challenges—particularly recruitment. Finding people who are both likable and possess strong analytical skills is difficult. This is why The MarCom Pro remains a small, highly selective team rather than expanding indiscriminately.

The Driving Force: A Life Shaped by Relentless Growth

What fuels Ann’s high standards and boundless energy? Not talent, but attitude. “I’ve been fighting all my life. I constantly push myself. I’ve always been ambitious.”

That drive traces back to her childhood. Growing up with a strict mother, she learned to constantly strive—to study harder, to improve, to avoid mistakes. This environment shaped her into someone who never stops developing and actively dislikes staying in a comfort zone.

“I’ve never lived in a comfort zone—and I don’t want to.”

From moving abroad without speaking English—learning the language by watching TV series nonstop for six months—to redefining career boundaries in the hotel industry, Ann has consistently challenged conventions. She became the first Director of Marketing Communications to transition into Director of Sales & Marketing, and later the first to move into Operations as Director of Rooms—a move many in the industry once deemed impossible.

Even her academic background in Computer Science reflects this tendency to choose demanding paths that require logic, discipline, and courage. To stay current and energised, she intentionally surrounds herself with younger generations—people in their 20s and early 30s—to understand emerging trends, from Gen Z photography styles to video editing techniques.

Although she appears extroverted in public, Ann reveals she is naturally an introvert who becomes extroverted around people she enjoys. Her true way of recharging is quiet time alone. Understanding this duality allows her to engage fully with the world—and return to herself when needed.

Defining Success on Her Own Terms

After years of hard work and constant self-challenge, Ann believes the greatest reward is not profit or company size—but freedom.

“I now have the freedom to decide. If someone invites me somewhere and I want to go—I go. To me, that’s a life reward.”

Freedom to travel, to work quietly alone, or to connect with others. She has reclaimed ownership of her time and life—something she once felt she had completely lost. Ann has never believed in traditional work-life balance. She believes in working hard to create a path toward passion. Today, her work is driven by two passions: taking care of herself and traveling.

Yet beyond building The MarCom Pro, her greatest personal achievement is raising her child. “My child is my greatest success—because she is who I wish I had been.” Her parenting philosophy reflects her life journey: raising her child the way she wished she had been raised—essentially the opposite of her own experience—with one ultimate goal: happiness. As long as her child is happy, she chooses not to interfere in her life decisions, breaking old cycles and passing forward the best lessons she has learned.

When asked to define herself, Ann answers without hesitation—three words that perfectly capture her journey:

“Ambitious. Fearless. A risk-taker.”
